          Thailand today gets a lot of Korean wave influence from food, fashion, lifestyle and especially entertainment. Not only that many Thai people love to watch Korean dramas, movies, variety shows but also love to watch said entertainments in Thai editions. It seems like a new trend these days for Thai entertainment companies buying copyrights for producing Korean dramas in Thai version or even using Korean celebrates as main characters in Thai dramas to target more audiences.

       First Thai drama, “Love and Lies” (Thai title: Gon rak game ma ya) starring a Korean actor as the male lead role, Jung Il-Woo was being funded and produced by the True4U Channel. Love and Lies is the story about Tim, who is the director of PR at a top entertainment company in Thailand. He is described as smart and arrogant man. Since his farther abandoned his family at young age, Tim has to be the man of the house. He tries to create good images on his artists no matter how much he has to lie.

      Hahm Eunjung, Korean actress and singer from a widely-known girl group named T-ARA is another Korean celebrity who joins this trend. Hahm Eunjung is starred in Thai movie, “Mind Memory” with young Thai popular star, James Ma. Mind Memory is a sci-fi romance movie about a wealthy young Thai man who works at a Korean software company. Eunjung starred as Minji, the main female character who is the daughter of the Korean software company’s president. She speaks in 3 languages; Korean, English and Thai in the movie.  She is the first female idol to take the main role in Thai movie.

     The remake of well-liked Korean dramas: Full House (풀하우스), Coffee Prince (커피 프린스), Autumn in my Heart (가을동화), Sorry, I Love You (미안하다, 사랑한다), Secret Garden (시크릿 가든), My Girl (마이걸), and Princess Hours (궁) are all examples of the new trend in Thailand influenced by Korean pop culture. These Thai edition dramas not only gain popularity from Thai audiences but also China and other Asian countries. The reasons behind this popularity must be from the plots themselves and the actors/actresses that touching viewers’ hearts no matter how many times they are remade. Thus TV broadcasting and drama production companies are likely to do famous Korean dramas and variety shows to Thai editions more and more.
