K-Webtoon Experience Exhibition in Thailand

Last month, I had the opportunity to visit the K-Webtoon Experience Exhibition at the Korean Cultural Center in Thailand. The popularity of Korean webcomics is rising steadily in Thailand. I observed a large number of young Thai people and some foreigners enjoying the exhibition on the day I came.

The exhibition zones can be divided into four zones. The first one is under the theme of Dark room: "Solo Leveling" where the audience can watch the action video on a large curved screen and get the cinematic experience.

The second one is the infinity mirror room. It is about the theme of "Solitary Lady". I saw a few people taking selfies with the mirror and the webtoon videos and photos. Children are so excited seeing themselves from various angles in this room.

The third zone is about "The Business Proposal" which is decorated as the office room in the comic. The viewers can take over the roles of the series' characters.

The photo booth for "One Day, My Favourite K-Pop Idol Group Leader Disappeared!"—a co-produced event by the Center and Kakao to honour Thai Korean War veterans—is the last zone, but it is also very well-liked by the crowds. The audiences can take photos with the said webtoon's famous scene frame and get the photos instantly by printing and scanning QR code to download photos on their smartphones. During my visit, there was a small queue. While waiting, people can take photos with the comic standees and join the event on SNS to get the prizes.

I originally thought it was the entirety of the K-Webtoon event, but when I ventured into the deepest part of the Korean Cultural Center, I came upon a charming two-dimensional cartoon style cafe where visitors could relax or take pictures just like they would in comic books. So be sure to explore all the parts of the Korean Cultural Center when you make a visit.

The exhibition will last until January 31, 2023 at the Korean Cultural Center in Thailand.
