A Glimpse of Korea Through Thai Eyes : My Experience with the SHOW ME YOUR KOREA Exhibition

Few things can match the thrill of seeing your own work displayed in an exhibition. This is precisely the honor I recently experienced when my photographs, "Palace Under Moonlight: A Gyeongbokgung Nightscape'' and "Gyeonghoeru Pavilion at Night," were selected for the "SHOW ME YOUR KOREA" exhibition at the Korean Cultural Center in Thailand.

Held from April 9th to June 28th, 2024, this free exhibition showcased the beauty of Korea through the lens of Thai travel enthusiasts, myself included. Witnessing 111 photographs, each capturing a unique perspective on the Land of Morning Calm, filled me with immense pride and a renewed appreciation for the power of cultural exchange.

The announcement calling for Korean travel photos from Thais sparked a fire within me. It was an opportunity, I realized, to share my love for Korea with others who held the same affection. Without hesitation, I delved into my photo gallery, a treasure trove of memories from countless Korean adventures. Each image whispered a story, a moment frozen in time that encapsulated the essence of Korea - the vibrant streets, the serene temples, the breathtaking landscapes. Selecting a few to submit felt like choosing favorites from a collection of cherished memories.

Seeing my photos displayed alongside the other 110 visual narratives is truly humbling. "Palace Under Moonlight: A Gyeongbokgung Nightscape" and "Gyeonghoeru Pavilion at Night'' offer a glimpse into the ethereal beauty of Korea after dark. They capture the majestic Gyeongbokgung Palace bathed in the soft glow of moonlight, a sight that is both inspiring and peaceful. It's a reminder that the beauty of Korea transcends language and cultural barriers. Each photograph resonates with a different viewer, evoking memories of their own Korean journeys or igniting a spark of wanderlust in those yet to discover its magic.

The exhibition serves as a bridge between Thailand and Korea, fostering cultural understanding through the shared passion for travel photography. It provides a platform for Thai people like myself to showcase our love for Korea, offering Korean culture enthusiasts a fresh perspective on the country. Participating in this exhibition has been deeply rewarding. It's more than just having my photos displayed; it's a chance to connect with fellow Korea lovers, share a piece of my Korean experience, and perhaps inspire others to discover this remarkable country. The exhibition fosters a sense of community, reminding us that our love for Korea transcends borders and languages.
