2015 Autumn in Korea Tour - Day 3 Part 3 - Seoul Lantern Festival (서울빛초롱축제)

by - Saturday, October 08, 2016

I had a chance to go to 2015 Seoul Lantern Festival on my last night in Korea.
Thanks to my hotel was quite near Cheonggyecheon stream so I walked there.

This festival will hold in every November
with a new theme and a fresh look every year.
It combines both traditionalism and modernism
through hundreds of thousands of lanterns.

Make a wish and throw your coin!

This year, Seoul Lantern Festival took place from November 6 - 22
along the Cheonggyecheon stream with
"Illuminated Seoul Tour" theme.
The lights were on from around 5pm - 11pm.

It was fun to take photos at night.
There were tons of beautiful lanterns.
The weather was a bit cold
and my camera battery ran so fast
so you should bring your extra battery.
Don't ask about my phone.
It could capture lanterns in the dark not quite well
compare to camera's night mode.

There were also other activities for those who visited;
for example, at Kwangtong Bridge and Gwanaggyo Gallery,
there was Wish lanterns hanging
「Tell Your Shining Wish」

You have to assemble your hope lantern,
and write whatever words you want on the outer cover of it.
Then go to queue and staff will light your hope lantern

Please be aware that queues were quite long!

New Year’s Wish Paper Hanging for Year 2016
Pay the participation fee of KRW 1,000 at the booth
inside Gwanggyo gallery and receive a colored hanji
Write your wish for 2016 on colored paper
and attach it to the place that corresponds to your color!

Along the stream, there were a small flea market and an light-up tunnel.

I took videos so you can catch a glimpse of Seoul Lantern Festival.
Hope you are enjoy!

How to get there:
Since this festival was very popular, it was so crowed!
You should avoid going on weekend (Fri-Sun).

There would be a few Entrances and Exits to enter the stream.
