Haedong Yonggungsa Temple holds a special place in my heart – it's one of my favorite attractions in Busan. In fact, I've visited this stunning temple several times, and it never fails to impress my companions. 

Its unique coastal setting and breathtaking beauty leave a lasting impression on everyone who experiences it, even on rainy visits. This popularity extends beyond foreign tourists; it's a beloved destination for locals as well. On my last visit, I was struck by the mix of international visitors and local families enjoying the temple grounds together. It was a heartwarming display of how deeply Haedong Yonggungsa is woven into the lives of residents. The temple's name itself, Haedong Yonggungsa, stems from a fascinating dream. Legend has it that a Buddhist monk named Jeongam dreamt of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva (the Bodhisattva of Compassion) arriving on the back of a dragon by the coast. This dream is beautifully reflected in the temple's location – perched dramatically over the edge of the land, where the sea meets the mountain like a scene from a painting.

Haedong Yonggungsa Temple offers a truly unique experience. Unlike many temples nestled inland, this one stands proudly along the shoreline. Visitors can take in the expansive blue sky and the calming sound of crashing waves as they explore the temple grounds. A three-story pagoda stands sentinel by the sea, guarded by four imposing lion statues.
